 | The three corporations that make up AAUW, the Association, the Educational Foundation, and the Legal Advocacy Fund, form the foundation of our organization's work and missions. |
| |
The Association Mission: The American Association of University Women advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW), a 100,000 member organization with more than 1,300 branches nationwide, lobbies and advocates for gender equity; works with teachers, administrators, students and parents to institute gender-fair education programs in schools; provides leadership training; and promotes multicultural awareness and action.
The Association's voice has long influenced legislative debate on critical social issues such as education, sex discrimination, civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave, and health care reform. |
| |
Current advocacy programs on a national level include:: AAUW voter education campaign, an initiative that uses a nationwide Get the Facts fax and e-mail network to educate women voters, mobilize the grassroots, launch organized get-out-the-vote drives, and get more women to the polls.
¡Adelante!, a diversity awareness and action program
Sister-to-Sister Summits, a nationwide series of girls conferences. In 1997, Philadlephia Branch AAUW hosted the prototype for this exciting series.
AAUW's program, Education and Equity: Choices for a Changing World, a portfolio of projects about the new century's many opportunities for women and girls - in work, education, and communities.
|
| |
AAUW Educational Foundation Mission: The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research, and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change.
The AAUW Educational Foundation, which is the largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women in the world, supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented. |

AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund Mission: The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund provides funding and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination.
The nation's largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education, the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund provides funding and a support system to women fighting sex discrimination at colleges and universities.
Since 1981 the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund has helped students, faculty, staff, and administrators in higher education challenge discriminatory practices - practices such as sexual harassment, denial of tenure or promotion, pay inequity, and inequality in women's athletics programs. |
